Calhoun Middle School/Denton High School (Fall 2012/Fall 2013)

Administrator Internship/Administrator Practicum

• Assisted in creation and implementation of a school-wide enrichment and remediation program to increase student success “Cougar Time”

 

• Developed a training program for “Cougar Time” to train over 90 staff members

 

• According to surveys, approximately 75% of staff members believed that this program was a successful method to increase student achievement

 

• Led a team to implement school-wide Student Led Conferences at Calhoun Middle School for IB accreditation

 

• Collaborated with local colleges, universities, and counselors to create a FAFSA completion event

 

• Utilized data from research project to tailor workshop sessions for Spanish-speaking families

 

Denton High School (2002-present)

Physics I/ESL Physics Teacher

• Implemented physics curriculum for 100-150 students per year, with at least 95% passing rates on state exams

 

• Increased student engagement through methods like project-based learning and technological frameworks

 

• Used visual differentiation strategies and interpersonal techniques to assist ESL learners

 

AP Physics B Teacher (Algebra based course)

• Developed and implemented the AP Physics B (Algebra based course) program

 

• Over 50% of students received passing rate for College Board Exam, helping them receive college credit or waivers

 

• Taught course via distance learning to Boyd High School

Texas Governor’s School (TGS) - University of North Texas (2007-2011) 

STEM Teacher: TGS was a free, three week long, gifted and talented, summer program with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math for students from all over Texas

• 1 of 14 secondary teachers selected from the North Texas area offered to students at no cost

 

• Collaborated with a research professor from the University of Texas at Arlington to create and co-teach an innovative curriculum for a diverse student population from all 20 Regions in Texas

 

• When TGS was presented at the Texas Gifted and Talented Annual Professional Development Conference in 2008, our course’s team and our class was selected to represent the program and its philosophy

LULAC Council #4366 (2015)

President

• President-elect, 2014

 

• Co-founder “Kids1st” program: collaboration between LULAC, NAACP, Denton PD, Sheriff’s office, Denton High PALS & Denton ISD students to provide positive interaction between youth and city officials.

 

• Creating ties between local LULAC councils in Denton, at UNT, TWU and Denton High

 

• Beginning stages of youth education and empowerment workshops

 

 

 

LULAC #1126 Youth Council (2012-present)

Charter Council Sponsor

• Collaborated with AMEX VP to create youth outreach program for scholarship banquet awardees

 

• Founded the Denton LULAC Youth Council #1126

 

• The charter DHS LULAC Youth Council #1126 resulted in 9 graduating seniors (100%)

 

• The seniors of our charter Youth Council #1126 were awarded over $76,000 in scholarships at the local LULAC scholarship award banquet

 

PUENTE (2012-2014)

Founding Board Co-Chair, and current Interim Chair

• PUENTE is a collaboration between district personnel, university personnel, and parents to educate the Latino community on issues surrounding their children’s education and provide resources to assist in their success

 

• Member of founding board and chaired organization for 2 years

 

• Coordinated Spanish-speaking components for various community presentations

 

• Implemented English acquisition program for Spanish-speaking families

 

• Partnered with Texas Woman’s University, University of North Texas, North Central Texas College, Denton ISD, and a number of other community resources to create large-scale events that served over 150 families

 

SAaVY (Students Against a Violent Youth): an after-school program for high-risk high school youth

• Founded organization and increased interest/membership from 2 to over 50 members in less than a semester

 

• Channeled high-risk youth’s talents in a number of community service projects, murals, and cultural assemblies
